What is Overland Travel
“Overland travel is the echo of ancient footsteps, still guiding us beyond the edge of comfort.”
For well over 200 hundred years, mankind has been evolving into the most curiosity filled creature to have ever explored our earth. Our lust for greener pastures and to be the first has fuelled our hearts and souls for adventure.
It is no surprise then that adventure tourism trade as grown into a multi-billion dollar industry. To this day and more than ever before, our overwhelming passion helps us to further our ability and to push ourselves to more daring limits. It's what took us from the jungle and into space. Basically, there isn't anything we wouldn't try.

At present there is plenty of scientific evidence that shows why our ancestors started spreading out globally, and in a lot of cases this concerned out unique association with the animal kingdom. As food sources changed and became more diverse, so to our habits and locations changed, as we began to evolve our lust for faraway lands, where we began to develop our innate curiosity for the unknown.
Modern overland travel is has become much more personal, where you now sit with a notepad and design your very journey. Where you want to visit, what you want to see and do whilst you are there and of course, what you want to see and do on the way there.
Overland now comes in a verity of forms - from travelling on tours trucks, having our own RV/motorhome, having an expedition purpose built 4x4 that will take you further than any road car. Enabling you to encounter more diversity than you can shake your trekking pole at. People now a days will find absurd way to travel the world. Such, Tuk Tuks or monkey bikes. But one one the most social and popular is by overland truck. Joining a group of like minded adventure seekers and journey vast continents. Some prefer to cycles or motorcycle. Well, all is good and all bring their own kind of adventure. Each one brings with it experience and wisdom in the ways of the world.
Overlanding our great planet, especially self guided is a form of meditation. There are many things to think about but only focusing on the challenge of the experiences it will bring, will bring those experiences. Overlanding is education, it a transformation into the new life you are unknowingly set yourself up for.
Travelling off the cuff with limited detailed plans and truly going into the unknown, is not only exciting, but invigorating. It's character building and confidence growing and life changing.
I have always had a growing and burning desire to share my experiences with others and to inspire fellow adventurers like yourself and show there is more to overland travel than having your hand held by a guide. Adventure travel now makes up around 26 -30% of tourism and people are always looking for new and exciting ways to get around the globe. We want to see more, do more and live more. We want to have experiences that will last a lifetime and we want stories to tell the next generations.
If you want to learn more on this subject, I will be writing regular blogs on it. So keep a lookout. If you want to go deeper you can by my book "The philosophy of overland travel"
“Every road we follow today was once an unmarked path into uncertainty.”
